About the Local Area...
Keswick is a superb location if you wish to explore the Lake District.
The town is on the shores of Lake Derwentwater and is surrounded
by beautiful fells. The walking locally is excellent whatever standard
you enjoy.
Several major walking routes such as the Cumbria Way and the Allerdale
Ramble pass through the area, as well as cycle routes such as the
Coast to Coast (C2C). Skiddaw, overlooking Keswick, is the 4th highest
mountain in England and the views from the top are well known for
being some of the best in the Lakes.
Whether it is walking, boating, climbing, horse riding, paragliding
or mountain biking, there is something for everyone in the Keswick
area.
Derwentwater is popular for sailing, windsurfing, canoeing, rowing,
fishing and has its own Launch
Service stopping at several points around the Lake,
, allowing you to walk so far, and cruise the rest.
The town itself is well known for it's excellent restaurants, tea
shops and inns, offering something for every taste and budget. Or
there are plenty of excellent country inns in the surrounding villages
such as the Horse
& Farrier in Threlkeld (4 miles away)
or the Swinside
Inn in Newlands Valley (3 miles away).

Ashness Bridge & Skiddaw
Local villages such as Portinscale and Braithwaite
offer a quiet alternative to the town itself and are within easy
walking distance of Keswick.
Or if you want to escape the crowds, the peaceful
Northern
Fells area behind Skiddaw, is only 25 minutes drive
away.
There are many other local attractions to enjoy
too, including Rheged
Discovery Centre on the A66 towards Penrith (winner of the global
"BA Tourism for Tomorrow Awards"). the Theatre
By The Lake, the Pencil
Museum, Honister
Slate Mine, and Derwentwater
Marina.
There is something for everyone around Keswick and
Derwentwater!
